Reflection

Today we begun by reviewing what we did last lesson. We talked about the different genres of movies and learned more about signs and signifiers within a movie. We also did an analysis of a clip from one of our favorite movies. I found the powerpoint on signs and signifiers really interesting as I have noticed these things in movies but never really thought about there affects on how we see the movie. The clip analysis helped me further my knowledge of film making techniques and how to influence the audiences mood through props and music. Overall I found this class to be useful and interesting.

Film Clip Analysis

Scott Pilgrim VS the World BASS BATTLE

SIGNS AND SIGNIFIERS

This scene depicts the 3rd "boss battle" between Scott Pilgrim and the 3rd Evil X, Todd. There is a parody on the word boss as the battle is called the bass battle and is fought with the use of bass guitars.
Aural: The music increases the the tension being simple but increasing in speed as the movie continues.
Costume: Todd is wearing a shirt with the number 3 on it. This probably represents the fact that he is the 3rd Evil X and Scott's 3rd Boss. Scott is wearing a shirt with a zero on it. This might represent the fact that he is planning to be a underdog and beat up the other 7 Evil Xs.
Props: The confetti on the ground moves towards who ever is losing the battle which helps us realize who is winning and by how much.

REFLECTION

Today we had our first Film Elective Class. Since this was my 2nd time taking Film as an Elective, I already knew the basic rules of Film class. However, I found the activity where we revealed why we were taking this class interesting and useful because it allowed me to find out more about the goals of my peers which will help me choose a group with the same interests as me.
